Installing Math Fonts for Netscape, Mozilla, or Firefox

These browsers have support for MathML display if you install the fonts needed.

  • Windows and Mac users please follow these instructions.

  • Redhat Linux (Fedora) users without root access may follow Linux specific instructions on this page.

  • Redhat Linux (Fedora) users (as root) may:

    yum install mathml-fonts

Note: On some systems (FC8), installing mathml fonts can have a side effect of breaking Arial and other Liberation fonts on Linux that substitute for MS true-type fonts, causing your browser to render Arial and other such fonts incorrectly.

The fix: download msttcorefonts-2.0-1.fc8.noarch.rpm (to /usr/local say) then install these MS TT Fonts by

    cd /usr/local
    rpm -ivh msttcorefonts-2.0-1.fc8.noarch.rpm

  • After installing MathML fonts you may test your browser by visiting this page.
